Miller and Morrisom

Post by highlander1745 » Sat Aug 17, 2019 10:50 pm

So I did family tree Dna, my surname is miller, ydna matches after y111 GD Distance 4 is all Morrison’s. Should I send my ydna info to the Morrison project? I am baffled?

I would suggest you do if you’re matching Morrison’s that closely.

Mr Miller - I see (by your email address) you are one of the Millers who are a close match to our Morrison Family. We are Group Q of the Morrison Y-DNA Project - we refer to ourselves as Morrison-Q and have our own WEB site -

We have done extensive research (still learning) into SNP Y-DNA (or as Family Tree DNA calls it - the Big Y test)

The common ancestor between your Millers and our Morrisons originated the SNP R-FGC5579. The estimated timeline for that ancestor is currently about 600 years ago (this estimate can change as more statistical information is gathered)

Our Morrison family branched off from R-FGC55779 about 375 years ago as R-FGC5577

Your Miller family branched off from R-FGC55779 about 225 years ago as R-BY302

Our common ancestor likely lived in a time before surnames were embraced

Yes, the Morrison, Gilmore project at FTDNA would welcome you as well and you would be a member of Group Q there.
