Ancestry

Post by stephed531 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 1:50 am

I've been trying to research my family's ancestry but I'm hitting a wall. The males in my Morrison family all had common names such as Edmond, George, etc and unfortunately my family has very little birth, death, marriage, etc data for me to cross reference. I've been told all my life I'm Scottish but after talking with some cousins, they mentioned they thought we were Irish. Am I out of luck to ever trace back my origins?

There are many Irish Morrisons who are descended from Scottish lines from the 1600's Plantation of Ulster, but there are other Morrisons in Ireland who do not have a Scottish connection. If you would like to contact me with specifics that you have on your line, I would be glad to offer a suggested path for research.

Thank you! I would appreciate any help I can get. I'm very interested in my ancestry but like I said, I don't have much information to help with the search. Would you like me to email you what I have? Also, I saw something about the DNA project. Would that help me in any way?

The Morrison DNA Project can be of great help in learning where your Morrisons are from originally. About 85% of our participants have a match. As the project continues to grow, we expect to connect more of our Y-DNA groups to connect with Morrisons who still live in the ancestral homeland. Please do e-mail me what you have on your line and I will tell you what I can. My e-mail is morrisondna-at-mindspring.com .

Hello
Sorry to add to someone else’s post, but I’m very interested ! I live in Scotland but have a ‘brick wall’ with an ancestor . I was hoping to use DNA to help but as a female I can only use Autsomonal testing - which I have from Ancestry . Is there a Gedmatch project for Morrison at all ? Would be very interested in one !

My ‘brick wall’ is Normand Morison , Applecross, who through family lore came from Lewis but we are unable to confirm with a paper trail . Hoping we can find a dna link to any Morrison’s from Lewis to help ...
Thank you
Ellay
