Group D Origins

Group D Morrisons came either directly from Scotland or via Northern Ireland to Pennsylvania and Virginia by the late 1700s.

We have a new match with Group D that will be posted in the upcoming Morrison project website update. Group D Morrisons have a very rare haplotype that matches no other surnames on 37 or 25 markers. This makes it easy to conclude that all Morrisons of this group share common descent, but makes it difficult to determine the locality of origin for this group. Further SNP testing of a member of this group should be helpful in resolving this.
