Scottish Origenes

The R1b-L1335 Project has notified participants of a very interesting web-site run by Dr Tyrone Bowes called Scottish Origenes which can be found here http://www.scottishorigenes.com. He has published a Scottish Surnames and DNA Map (you have to go to Irish Origenes to see a picture of it, for some ...

Very interesting site, Edwin. Thanks. I see Banffshire is well represented.

Re: Group H Origins

Jeff,

Yes, I don't know whether we are Dalriada or Pict - perhaps a bit of both. I am not very impressed with the Family Finder Origins which only shows, for me, European, which is pretty obvious.

Re: Group H Origins

Have you checked your new Family Finder Origins on FTDNA? I am 100% European according to this - surprise, surprise!!

Re: Joining the Forum

Jeff, Sorry for the delay in replying. No, I have not been in contact with M392. Your lead there looks very promising indeed and I think you ought to get hold of him. This could be yet another sign that we all in H came originally from Fife, don't you think? I will be very interested in the outcome....

Hanna's The Scotch-Irish

Archive CD Books have just released a downloadable version of Charles Hanna's "The Scotch-Irish". Volume 2 will be of particular interest to many I am sure. "...In volume two, Hanna shifts the focus to North America, and concentrates on the development of Scottish settlements in New England and alon...

MTDNA

I know it is a bit 'off subject', but can anyone explain HVR1 matches (in words of one syllable please as I am a duffer on this subject!)? My mother (English) seems to have a lot of Swedish matches.

Thanks.

Re: Cap badges.

Chris,

Sounds very likely, and he or she may have got the idea of a snake from the same source that I did.

Re: Cap badges.

Chris,

I must pass on this one. I doubt that there was ever a clan badge for this as it is part of a personal coat-of-arms and I don't think the Bognie Morisons ever thought in terms of clanship etc.

Alexander,

You have 'hit the nail on the head' in every way, making everything very clear. I am sure all members will appreciate your efforts in this respect; it was an exercise long overdue.

Great stuff, Alex, and I think you could well be right about the Fife origin.

Alastair (Alex as well but will reverts my other name Alastair to avoid confusion!)

Re: Cap badges.

According to The Clans Septs and Regiments of the Scottish Highlands by Frank Adams and Innes of Learney the Serpent Proper was/is the crest of Morison of Bognie.

Re: Joining the Forum

Scot, Thanks for your wise thoughts on our Group. Walter Morison had 6 sons and 14 grandsons and I have not been able to trace them all. This would be a mammoth task (and v. expensive) but have concentrated for the most part on my own line. Although they were farmers or crofters, needing sons to wor...

Death of Alexander Gordon Morison

Hello All, I am placing this here rather than in Group H to which it mainly relates as I think it will be of general interest to everyone. A few years a go we approached Lord Morison to ask if he would participate in our DNA program but, unfortunately, he declined the offer. This is particularly sad...

Re: Joining the Forum

I quite agree, Jeff, and it's great when you discover characterisitics that have passed down the generations; looks, personalities and even occupations.

What we need is others of H1 who hail from North Carolina to get talking. Come on Clan!

Re: Joining the Forum

Hello Jeff, Yes, we have spoken before on the old bulletin board - I called myself Alexander there, just to confuse things! It is such a shame that you and Betsy have both hit brick-walls. Your ancestors were from North Carolina, weren't they, and I believe that was where the Highland Scots emigrate...

Re: Joining the Forum

Hello Betsy, and it's nice to hear from you. I'm glad to hear that Ross has followed Edwin's advice and is awaiting the result of the L1335 SNP test. I hope it is positive, which I think it will be, and that this will forge another link in the chain to his roots. I'm sorry that you have hit a brick ...
