Re: Upcoming Events?

My wife and I usually attend the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, Ontario, Canada in early August. It's very well attended, both for the athletics and pipe competitions.

Re: DNA testing - R-L47 and Z159

Just a short addition to my earlier post. Other recent posts in the a Forum reminded me that some consider the Morrison badge to have 2-3 Moors heads and, further, that Morrison has been described by some as meaning "swarthy". At the Glengarry Highland Games in Ontario this past summer, one research...

Re: Morrison Folktales about the name, tartan and badge.

Interesting stories from georgeetta. Thanks. You mention that your family skin colour is "dark skinned...like Middle-Eastern". I was wondering whether you had your DNA tested. It would be interesting to see if you're L159+, which some Morrisons are.

Best regards,

Re: DNA testing - R-L47 and Z159

Thank you to both Ian and Chris. I am not really attempting to provide a solution or, Ian, to contradict your suggestion about a Frisian connection. Your description may be prove to ultimately be the correct one. From what I've seen on the internet, there has been much discussion on the origins of L...

Re: DNA testing - R-L47 and Z159

I just received results showing that I am Z159+. Given DNA data showing an Iberian and Persian connection through L47, I wonder whether anyone has examined the possibility of a Moorish influence in the development of Morrisons, especially since St. Maurice was a Moorish general. Just a thought as do...

Re: Thanks for the Forum

Your comments are appreciated, Edwin. I'll let matters settle at the U106 site. I stopped automatically receiving the site emails once the results were released...it was a daily flood. I'll go back and see what comes of their impressive work as to potential next steps.

Just learned that I am also R-L47+. So, on to testing for Z159.

Re: Morrison Folktales about the name, tartan and badge.

The long-standing confusion surrounding the origin(s) of the name Morrison is quite interesting. No doubt the change in language over the years has played a role in producing a singular name, and this combined with the absence of deep historic records. One cannot help wonder whether some of those wh...

Re: DNA testing - R-L47 and Z159

Interesting results, Ian. I'm waiting for L47 results. Depending on the outcome, I' may go on with the Z159 test. I'll post then. As for Gaelic speaking, German or Frisian origins don't make your ancestors any less Scottish than had they come from Viking origins....just another immigrant to the Isle...

Re: Thanks for the Forum

Pardon my obvious ignorance, Edwin, but what is SNP L47 ? I gather it relates to Group V in that it shows on the map you created a link to, with a mark near Ulapool.

Re: Thanks for the Forum

Good to hear from you, Ian. If your ancestors went to the mainland, you might want to join in on County Sutherland, Yahoo Groups. Some of the members specialize in that region and might be able to help you find Hugo/Hugh connections.

Best regards.

Re: Thanks for the Forum

Thanks, Edwin. Two questions. 1: what is the process for non-Morrison matches to join on this board? 2: if a member of a group, such as V, matches with members of another group, is that information made known to the member? I would expect that Morrisons in Group V would have matches with Morrisons o...

Thanks for the Forum

Simply a quick note to thank the team for setting up the Forum.

Although Group V is rather small, I am hopeful that it's members will be willing to be involved and to exchange information.

Looking forward to meeting you in the Forum.
