Re: GUYON (GAVIN) MORRISON OF lONDONDERRY IRELAND

Thanks for the reply Robert. You're correct; Leonard Allison Morrison's book does contain a lot of comprehensive and inclusive information on the Morrisons. The information on pages 75 and 76 of his John Morrison chapter presents is the same information as I listed in my 2/13 reply. His book was pub...

Re: GUYON (GAVIN) MORRISON OF lONDONDERRY IRELAND

I need to apologize; the information I submitted above is incorrect. 1. John Morrison (b 1650) was married to his 1st wife in Ireland-her name is unknown. He was never married to Mary Wallace. 2. John Morrison (b 1650) was never married to Janet Gilchrist. To the best of my knowledge, the informatio...

1735-1736 Morrison Deaths in New Hampshire

In some of the genealogical histories of the Morrison family, there are comments about the unlikelihood of family members dying in the same year. This is especially true of the accounts of Captain James H. Morrison (1628-1735), his wife Sarah J Evans Morrison (1628-1736), their son John Morrison (16...

Re: Ewen Morrison of Lewis; an early Morrison

You're welcome; my pleasure. One reference states Ewen had a son named John (1501-1551) who married Margaret Katherine Preston (1502-?). {Not to be confused with Lady Katharine Margaret Preston (1557-1595)}. I have not been able to corroborate this fact. If I can find other references and their sour...

Ewen Morrison of Lewis; an early Morrison

Ewen Morrison of Lewis There are many references to early Morisons (Morrisons); some from Lewis. Few references list Ewen (Evan) Morrison as one of these early Morrisons. He is alternately referred to as “The Piper in Lewis” or “In the Lewis.” He was born in Lewis in 1474, and died in 1521 in Innerm...

Re: Lewis Morrisons

The advice the Morrison DNA Project Administrator gave you is excellent. He gave me the same advice and I followed it. The scenario you describe is best summed-up by a quote from the Morrison Clan page of GeoCities.com : After the dissolution of the Lordship of the Isles in 1493, life in the Hebride...

Re: James Morrison 1757-1840

The more sources you use, the more questions are created; here are two different answers to your query: Answer #1 (Source "Our Family Tree")- Gen 1 - John Morrison (1650-2/16/1736) + Jeanette Steele (1654-2/1736) Gen 2 - James Morrison (b 1677 Ireland -3/5/1710) + Mary Gilmour James Morrison Gen 3 -...

Re: GUYON (GAVIN) MORRISON OF lONDONDERRY IRELAND

I've been able to expand the information I have on Guyon's family, and parents: Guyon's father was John (James) Morrison 1650-1735. He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Both John and his father James (Capt. James H Morrison 1628-1735) fought in Ireland in the 1680's against the King. John Morrison mar...

Regarding Joseph H Morrison, Sr-the following information is copied verbatim from Text taken from page 658 of: Beers, J. H. and Co., Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington County, Pennsylvania (Chicago: J. H. Beers & Co., 1893). "James, youngest of the family of Guyon Morrison, Sr., was bor...

Re: Joseph H Morrison Sr

Margaret Wilson was the daughter of John Wilson (1768-1855) and Nancy Crawford (1775-1845). He was from Adams County, Pa, and she was from Washington County, Pa.
They both died in Butler County, Pa.
That's not much information; but I hope it helps.

Re: Morrison Folktales about the name, tartan and badge.

Alexander, Yours in the most cogent, well researched, and logical treatise I have ever read about the Morrisons and their origin(s). Thank you. I've had a difficult time putting my family's lineage together with all of the stories and gaps in dates and traditions in the information I have used. I'm ...

Re: Francis Lewis Morrison-Mystery Man

Thanks for all of your advice. I have successfully resolved the mysteries and issues I had with Francis Lewis Morrison. Subsequently, I have been able to trace the rest of the lineage back to Ewen Morrison, " The Piper in Lewis" 1474-1521. Thanks again.

Re: Francis Lewis Morrison-Mystery Man

I did the Morrison Family DNA Project test in 2014 at your suggestion. My Y DNA Haplogroup is G-M 201. No matches to date. I am a life member of the Clan Morrison Society. I am still hopeful to find a match, or matches. I know the G Group has a history of matches to Harris and Lewis; although G-M201...

As a Morrison I'm delighted to hear Group G has a possible link to the islands of Harris and Lewis. My Y-DNA Haplogroup is G-M201, and to date I have not had any matches to anyone named Morrison through the Family Tree DNA Morrison Project. I haven't given up hope at this point, but I am starting to...
