Genealogy. David Gilmour from Strathaven Scotland

Postby David Gilmour » Sat Dec 30, 2017 5:45 pm

I am researching the genealogy of my Gilmour family line. My great great grandfather, David Gilmour (1787-1881), from Strathaven, emigrated to Glover Vermont 1847, 7 years after his son Arther came to the USA. David's parents were Arthur Gilmour (d.1759) and Margaret Russell (d. 1763). Both lived in Strathaven, Miln, Lanark Scotland.
I have not been able to trace my Gilmour ancestry beyond that, and have not been able to establish the possible link between the Isle of Lewis and Strathaven.
Any suggestions?

Try http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to search for records of Gilmours in the Strathaven area. Y-DNA testing can show which other Scottish surnames are most closely related. There is probably no connection to the Isle of Lewis.
