The Morrison DNA Project - Our Third Year
Edwin F. Holcombe, Jr.
Secretary, CMSNA, and Administrator, Morrison DNA Project
The Morrison DNA Project has just completed its third year, and we continue to learn more about our Morrison origins with every new participant. During the past year, our project has grown from 186 members to 230. We have identified eight new family groups during the past year and now have a total of 34 different DNA groups of Morrisons, Gilmores and McLemores. Over 80% of our participants have found matches.
What can we learn from the project?
Morrisons who share the same paternal ancestry will also share the same DNA. Comparing a family's DNA with others in the project will show which other Morrisons are in the same extended family.
What do these matches tell us?
If one or more of the matches has a documented link with a location in Scotland, then a participant will learn the area in Scotland that his family was from.
What have we learned about where Morrisons lived in Scotland so far?
The included map shows where some of the groups in the project probably originated. Most of the groups have documented connections to the locations shown, but some are based on near DNA matches with other region-specific surnames.
